Studies under Section 64

If you are a third country national and you would like to study in the Czech Republic and apply for a residence permit (a long-term visa or a long-term residence permit), the form of your studies must correspond to what Act no. 326/1999 Coll., Foreigners Act, defines as studies.

Under this Act, studies are:

  • Studies of a university accredited study programme.
  • Attendance of language and professional preparation courses for the studies of a university accredited study programme (organised by a public university, as part of an EU programme or based on an international agreement).
  • Secondary school or higher vocational school studies carried out as part of an exchange programme.
  • Scholarships under the scholarship programme of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the EU, or based on the decision of the Czech Government, under the international agreements implemented by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
  • Study visits to the Czech Republic during, or at the latest within 2 years from the completion of, studies at a foreign university.
    • The study visit must be organised or coordinated by a Czech university, Czech Academy of Sciences or a legal entity accredited for such purposes by the Czech Ministry of Education having its business address in the Czech Republic, or outside the Czech Republic but with a division in the Czech Republic.
  • European voluntary service in the case of applicants aged 18 to 30, or a voluntary service the purpose of which is to gain practical or professional experience.
    • The service must be carried out at the host organisation in the Czech Republic as part of an EU programme or initiative or as part of a similar national programme and, at the same time, it must be organised or coordinated by a legal person accredited for such purposes by the Ministry of Education having its business address in the Czech Republic, or outside the Czech Republic but with a division in the Czech Republic.
  • Exchange of experience and study programmes for persons in charge of human resources education and development, if such activities are carried out within the programmes and initiatives of the EU or under international agreements.

If your study activities do not correspond to one of the above-mentioned examples (e.g. you want to study a secondary school, a university unaccredited study programme, language courses, etc.), you can apply for a long-term visa or a long-term residence permit for the purpose of “other”
