Obligations of EU Citizens and Their Family Members

Obligations for EU citizens and their family members are governed by the Foreigners Act. Below you can find what obligations foreigners in the Czech Republic deal with most frequently.

As EU citizens or EU citizens’ family members, you have mainly the following obligations:

• To report to the Department of Foreign Police that you have arrived in the Czech Republic within 30 days from the day you entered the country if you are planning to stay here for more than 30 days. You can download the registration form on the Foreign Police website. You do not have this obligation if the accommodation provider (hotel, hostel…) reports your arrival, or if you are person under 15 years of age.
  • If the EU citizen does not reside in the Czech Republic, his/her family member must report his/her stay within 3 working days from the day he/she entered the Czech Republic.
• To report a change of name, surname, civil status, information in a travel document, including the issuance of a new travel document, as well as information in your residence permit or registration certificate within 15 working days from the day the change was made.
• To report a change of address within 30 working days from the day the change was made if you are going to reside at the new address for more than 180 days.
• If you want to end your residence in the Czech Republic, you must hand back the certificate of residence at the latest 3 days before you end your residence.
• If you lose or damage your residence document or if it is stolen from you, you must report it within 3 working days from the day the incident occurred.
• If you lose your travel document or if it is stolen from you, you must report it immediately to the police.
