A visa for a stay longer than 90 days (a long-term visa) for the purpose of a working holiday is intended for the citizens of those third countries with which the Czech Republic has a correspondent bilateral agreement. The objective of a working holiday is to improve one’s language skills, or to get to know the culture and the society of the target country and to work there temporarily. As the agreements with individual countries differ, below you can find the application’s details per individual country.
Information for the citizens of the Republic of Chile
General Information
Who can apply for a visa for a stay longer than 90 days for the purpose of a working holiday?
You can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday if you are a citizen of the Republic of Chile, you are between 18 and 30 (including) years of age at the time of application, you are not accompanied by dependent persons and, at the same time, you wish to spend a holiday, work temporarily, or attend training or language courses in the Czech Republic.
Your possible employment must be a secondary purpose of residence.
The two countries agreed for the citizens of Chile a quota of 200 issued visas per given calendar year.
How long is this visa valid for?
For 1 year.
What does this type of visa look like?
Is it possible to extend a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday?
No, the validity of this residence permit is limited to 1 year and it cannot be extended. If you wish to stay in the Czech Republic longer than the visa allows you to, you must apply in good time for a long-term residence permit.
What obligations and possibilities does this residence permit mean?
As long as the residence permit is valid, you can work in the Czech Republic (you have free access to the labour market) for the entirety of your stay. You must also follow the obligations for foreigners stipulated by law.
With a valid residence permit, you can leave and re-enter the Czech Republic repeatedly. You can also travel within the Schengen Area without a visa.

You can only apply in person at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Santiago de Chile.
What is the consular fee?

STEPS TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO APPLY:
1. Prepare the necessary documents
To apply you will need:
- Travel document (valid at least 3 months longer than your expected stay in the Czech Republic)
- A return ticket or sufficient funds for its purchase
- Proof of funds for the residence
- Declaration that you have never been convicted in the Republic of Chile for a crime or a misdemeanour.
- 2 photographs
- Comprehensive medical insurance
- Comply with all the health-related requirements for entrance to the Czech Republic

2. Fill in the application form
You can fill in the application form online. Then print out the filled-in form and sign it.
You can also download a blank application form, print it out and fill it in by hand – it must be filled in legibly, in block capitals and in Latin characters. You can also collect the form free of charge at a Czech Republic’s diplomatic mission
3. Contact the diplomatic mission
Before applying, please contact the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Santiago de Chile and make an appointment.
4. Submit the application
You must submit the application in person. In justified cases a diplomatic mission may waive the obligation to submit the application in person. You must add all the documents required by law to the application, pay a consular fee and use the correct form (printed). If you fail to do so, your application will be considered as inadmissible. Your application together with the documents and the fee will be returned to you.
The diplomatic mission’s employees may take your finger prints and visual record, and they may also do an interview with you.
5. Wait for the decision
The Ministry of the Interior will first assess if your application meets all the formal requirements and it will also check if you meet all the requirements to obtain the residence permit you are applying for. In such case you may be invited for an interview that will be conducted by the diplomatic mission upon the Ministry’s request.
In the course of the administrative proceedings you can:
- Add additional documents to your application.
- Be represented in the proceedings (a power of attorney).
- Ask for access to file.
- Withdraw the application (withdrawal of the application).

6. Learn the result of the administrative proceedings
On the website under Status of my application you can see the following states:
- Being processed: No decision has been taken yet. For more information on what you can do in the course of the administrative proceedings please see the previous section.
- Granted: The Ministry’s decision is affirmative. Please see the following section.
- Rejected: Your long-term visa application was rejected – either there is a reason for not granting the visa or your application was deemed inadmissible.
- There is a reason for not granting the visa: In such case you will receive a notice informing you about the reasons for not granting the visa. You cannot appeal against this notice. If your application is not granted and you disagree with the reasons for not granting the visa, you can apply for a new assessment of the reasons for not granting the visa.
- Your application was inadmissible. In such case you will receive a notice that the decision has been recorded in the file, explaining why the application was deemed inadmissible. The Ministry will return the whole application (the form, the documents and the consular fee) to you.
7. Collect your visa at the diplomatic mission and provide a proof of medical insurance
If the application is granted, come to the diplomatic mission and collect the visa. A diplomatic mission’s employee will contact you beforehand in order to schedule an appointment with you.
Before receiving the visa in your passport, you must provide a proof of travel medical insurance:
- covering emergency and essential care for the first 90 days of your stay in the country together with a proof of comprehensive medical insurance for the rest of your stay, or
- directly a proof of comprehensive medical insurance for the entirety of your permitted residence in the country.
The diplomatic mission can also ask you to provide a proof of payment for the insurance. A proof of travel medical insurance is not required in cases stipulated by law (e.g. your medical insurance is provided under an international agreement).
8. Get registered at the Foreign Police upon arrival
You must get registered at the Foreign Police within 3 days from the day you arrived in the Czech Republic.
Information for the citizens of Israel
General Information
Who can apply for a visa for a stay longer than 90 days for the purpose of a working holiday?
You can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday if you are a citizen of Israel, you are between 18 and 30 (including) years of age at the time of application, you are not accompanied by dependent persons and, at the same time, you wish to spend a holiday, work temporarily or attend training or language courses in the Czech Republic.
Your possible employment must be a secondary purpose of residence.
The two countries agreed for the citizens of Israel a quota of 200 issued visas per given calendar year.
How long is this visa valid for?
For 1 year. At the same time, it is not possible to issue this visa repeatedly to the same person.
What does this type of visa look like?
Is it possible to extend a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday?
No, the validity of this residence permit is limited to 1 year and it cannot be extended. If you wish to stay in the Czech Republic longer than the visa allows you to, you must apply in good time for a long-term residence permit.
What obligations and possibilities does this residence permit mean?
As long as the residence permit is valid, you can work in the Czech Republic (you have free access to the labour market) for the entirety of your stay. However, you can be employed by one particular employer only for a maximum of 3 months. You must also follow the obligations for foreigners stipulated by law.
At the same time, as part of the programme, you can attend training or study courses but the overall length of the courses altogether cannot exceed 3 months.
With a valid residence permit, you can leave and re-enter the Czech Republic repeatedly. You can also travel within the Schengen Area without a visa.

You can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday if you are a citizen of Japan, you are between 18 and 30 (including) years of age at the time of application, you are not accompanied by dependent persons, except for persons who hold their own valid visas; and, at the same time, you wish to spend a holiday in the Czech Republic or work occasionally and temporarily here to finance your trip.
Your possible employment must be a secondary purpose of residence.
How long is this visa valid for?
For a maximum of 1 year. At the same time, it is not possible to issue this visa repeatedly to the same person.
What does this type of visa look like?
Is it possible to extend a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday?
No, the validity of this residence permit is limited to a maximum of 1 year and it cannot be extended.
What obligations and possibilities does this residence permit mean?
As participants of this programme, you are going to enter the Czech Republic mainly for the purpose of spending a holiday here. You also confirm that you are not going to change the purpose of your residence and that when the visa expires, you will leave the country. In the course of your whole residence in the Czech Republic, you can work here without any additional work permit (you have free access to the labour market). However, work must not be the main purpose of your residence and must only serve the purpose of financing your trip.
You must also follow the obligations for foreigners stipulated by law.
At the same time, with a long-term visa, you can repeatedly leave and re-enter the Czech Republic for the whole duration of the visa’s validity. A long-term visa also entitles you to a short non-profit stay in other Schengen countries.

Who can apply for a visa for a stay longer than 90 days for the purpose of a working holiday?
You can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday if you are a citizen of Canada, you are between 18 and 35 (including) years of age at the time of application and, at the same time, you fall into one of the following categories:
- You have finished post-secondary studies and, to boost your career growth, you wish to undertake further paid training in the Czech Republic on the basis of a promised work contract.
- You are enrolled in post-secondary studies and you wish to complete part of your study programme in the form of an internship or a job placement, which is a compulsory part of your studies.
- You wish to travel in the Czech Republic and to work here occasionally in order to finance your trip.
The two countries agreed for the citizens of Canada a quota of 1,150 issued visas per given calendar year.
How long is this visa valid for?
For a maximum of 1 year. You can acquire this residence permit at most twice provided that each time you apply, you will fall into a different of the above-mentioned categories. Stays cannot immediately succeed one another.
What does this type of visa look like?

No, the validity of this residence permit is limited to a maximum of 1 year.
What obligations and possibilities does this residence permit mean?

You can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday if you are a citizen of New Zealand, you are between 18 and 35 (including) years of age at the time of application, you are not accompanied by children and, at the same time, you wish to spend a holiday in the Czech Republic with work being a secondary rather than primary purpose of residence.
The two countries agreed for the citizens of New Zealand a quota of 1,200 issued visas per given calendar year.
How long is this visa valid for?
For 1 year. At the same time, it is not possible to issue this visa repeatedly to the same person.
What does this type of visa look like?
Is it possible to extend a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday?
No, the validity of this residence permit is limited to a maximum of 1 year and it cannot be extended.
What obligations and possibilities does this residence permit mean?
As long as the residence permit is valid, you can work in the Czech Republic (you have free access to the labour market), however, you must not work for the same employer for more than 3 months. - Rejected: Your long-term visa application was rejected – either there is a reason for not granting the visa or your application was deemed inadmissible.
- There is a reason for not granting the visa: In such case you will receive a notice informing you about the reasons for not granting the visa. You cannot appeal against this notice. If your application is not granted and you disagree with the reasons for not granting the visa, you can apply for a new assessment of the reasons for not granting the visa.
- Your application was inadmissible. In such case you will receive a notice that the decision has been recorded in the file, explaining why the application was deemed inadmissible. The Ministry will return the whole application (the form, the documents and the consular fee) to you.
7. Collect your visa at the diplomatic mission and provide a proof of medical insurance
If the application is granted, come to the diplomatic mission and collect the visa. A diplomatic mission’s employee will contact you beforehand in order to schedule an appointment with you.
Before receiving the visa in your passport, you must provide a proof of travel medical insurance:
- covering emergency and essential care for the first 90 days of your stay in the country together with a proof of comprehensive medical insurance for the rest of your stay, or
- directly a proof of comprehensive medical insurance for the entirety of your permitted residence in the country.
The diplomatic mission can also ask you to provide a proof of payment for the insurance. A proof of travel medical insurance is not required in cases stipulated by law (e.g. your medical insurance is provided under an international agreement).
8. Get registered at the Foreign Police upon arrival
You must get registered at the Foreign Police within 3 days from the day you arrived in the Czech Republic.

Who can apply for a visa for a stay longer than 90 days for the purpose of a working holiday?
You can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday if you are a citizen of the Republic of Korea, you are between 18 and 30 (including) years of age at the time of application, you are not accompanied by dependent persons and, at the same time, you wish to spend a holiday in the Czech Republic or work occasionally and temporarily here to finance your trip.
Your possible employment must be a secondary purpose of residence.
The two countries agreed for the citizens of the Republic of Korea a quota of 300 issued visas per given calendar year.
How long is this visa valid for?
For 1 year. At the same time, it is not possible to issue this visa repeatedly.
What does this type of visa look like?
Is it possible to extend a long-term visa for the purpose of a working holiday?
No, the validity of this residence permit is limited to a maximum of 1 year and it cannot be extended.
What obligations and possibilities does this residence permit mean?
As long as the residence permit is valid, you can work in the Czech Republic (you have free access to the labour market) for the entirety of your stay. You must also follow the obligations for foreigners stipulated by law.
With a valid residence permit, you can leave and re-enter the Czech Republic repeatedly. You can also travel within the Schengen Area without a visa.

What is the consular fee?

STEPS TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO APPLY:
1. Prepare the necessary documents
To apply you will need:
- Travel document (the validity of which must exceed the expected length of your stay)
- A return ticket or sufficient funds for its purchase
- Proof of funds for the residence
- Written statement that you have no criminal record
- Comprehensive medical insurance
- Comply with all the health-related requirements for the entrance in the Czech Republic

2. Fill in the application form
You can fill in the application form online. Then print out the filled-in form and sign it.
You can also download a blank application form, print it out and fill it in by hand – it must be filled in legibly, in block capitals and in Latin characters. You can also collect the form free of charge at a Czech Republic’s diplomatic mission
3. Contact the diplomatic mission
Before applying, please contact the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Soul and make an appointment.
4. Submit the application
You must submit the application in person. In justified cases a diplomatic mission may waive the obligation to submit the application in person. You must add all the documents required by law to the application, pay a consular fee and use the correct form (printed). If you fail to do so, your application will be considered as inadmissible. Your application together with the documents and the fee will be returned to you.
The diplomatic mission’s employees may take your finger prints and visual record, and they may also do an interview with you.
5. Wait for the decision
The Ministry of the Interior will first assess if your application meets all the formal requirements and it will also check if you meet all the requirements to obtain the residence permit you are applying for. In such case you may be invited for an interview that will be conducted by the diplomatic mission upon the Ministry’s request.
In the course of the administrative proceedings you can:
- Add additional documents to your application.
- Be represented in the proceedings (a power of attorney).
- Ask for access to file.
- Withdraw the application (withdrawal of the application).

6. Learn the result of the administrative proceedings
On the website under Status of my application you can see the following states:
- Being processed: No decision has been taken yet. For more information on what you can do in the course of the administrative proceedings please see the previous section.
- Granted: The Ministry’s decision is affirmative. Please see the following section.
